Kämmererite is a chromiferous variety of clinochlor of the silicate group and the subgroup of phyllosilicates of formula (Mg,Cr)6[(OH)8AlSi3O10].
Described by Finnish mineralogist Nils Gustaf Nordenskiöld in 1841. the mineral was dedicated to A.Kämmerer, from St. Petersburg, Director of Mines.
